Physical education
embodies more than just movement-based education; it is paramount that a
quality physical education program provides a holistic approach to educating
children. Physical education provides a
foundation of skills and knowledge necessary to make informed healthful choices
not only today, but for a lifetime. The
acquisition of these skills will derive from students being exposed to a
variety of physical activities, sports, and methods of fitness, which will allow
students to apply the knowledge they discovered in the classroom to the world
around them.
The Reading Public School’s physical education program is committed to molding the minds and bodies of students who are productive informed independent citizens in a global society. The physical education class is an ideal setting for students to learn and practice a variety of life skills. By creating a classroom culture where students can expect to enjoy themselves, it inspires them to want to learn new skills and enhances their motivation towards physical activity.
All in all, “It takes village to raise a child”, and a large part of the village is the school setting and having the students gain a sense of belonging, along with the educational tools to be successful throughout life. Therefore, I am committed to providing our students with a physical education experience that enriches all facets of their life. In particular, I strive to instill an appreciation for a life-long enjoyment of physical activity and provide a foundation of skills and knowledge necessary to make informed, healthful choices.
Yours in good health,
Mr. McCracken
